Estoril Conferences: Purpose of the Corporation at LSE

Professor Alexander Pepper, the former Academic Director of the LSE CEMS MiM Programme, would like to invite you to a day of thought leadership and discussion on Thursday 1 September 2022 at The London School of Economics and Political Science, where we will be considering whether businesses can prioritise purpose while at the same time satisfying the financial objectives of shareholders.

About the Event

For the LSE programme at Estoril Conferences 2022 – a platform for global dialogue about the world's most pressing issues coordinated by CEMS schools – Professor Alexander Pepper is bringing together a group of business leaders, academics, investors, and financial journalists to discuss the topical question, “What is the purpose of the corporation?”

This is a ‘by-invitation only’ event. We have specifically identified a number of friends of LSE and leaders in the space of purposeful business who we believe will contribute to the debate. We should therefore be particularly delighted if you were able to attend. We will also be joined by a small number of students.

Speakers include Professor Alex Edmans of London Business School, as well as Professor David Kershaw and Edmund Schuster of LSE.

The day will commence with a corporate play performed by RADA Business – a new way of stimulating discussion on matters of strategic importance.

There will also be an opportunity for everyone to participate in a debate chaired by Sir Geoffrey Owen, with the motion proposed by Will Hutton of The Purposeful Company task force and opposed by Adrian Wooldridge of Bloomberg Opinion.

The day is being chaired by LSE Council Chair and leading ethics expert Dr Susan Liautaud.

We hope you can join us for an exciting day of conversation, networking and pioneering ideas with leading business thinkers.
