The fourth edition of the CEMS Career Explorer Series took place on October 18th, with the support of Cornell SC Johnson College of Business . During this event, participants had the opportunity to collect relevant information and insights relevant to working in the US.
During the first hour, we had the pleasure to welcome Ellen Murphy, Associate Director of Career Management at Cornell University. Ellen has 18 years of professional experience in higher education, with last 8 years working in career services, specializing in supporting business students, international students, alumni, and employers. She has demonstrated strong communication, presentation, and project management skills throughout her career at institutions like Cornell University, helping students and alums achieve their career goals.
During this session, Ellen shared valuable information about the US and key elements about the US Job Search, such as the American office culture, American resumes, facts and figures about the job market, recruitment timings, and typical work authorization for students.
To close this hour, Ellen answered numerous questions during a Q&A session with over 65 participants, and went over the reality of finding a position in the US, visa options and much more.
In addition to this session, students had the opportunity to attend a rotational chat with 4 CEMS alumni working and living in the country. Florian de Boer - Business Strategy Manager at Accenture, CEMS Alum of 2016 (UCD/WU), Barbora Havelková - Project Leader at BCG, CEMS Alum of 2019 (VSE/UoC), Sylvia Kang - Senior Consultant at Deloitte, CEMS Alum of 2018 (HEC/HSG) and Prenon Barua - Director at Mastercard, CEMS Alum of 2018 (IIMC/LSM) kindly participated in this networking event.
During this hour-long laid back chat, participants were able to discuss with fellow CEMSies, to get more information about what it is like to work in the US, obtain help from mentors and build their network. This casual format not only allowed CEMSies to connect and contributed to strengthening the ties in the CEMS community but also allowed seasoned alumni to broaden participants’ knowledge about their companies.
The CEMS Career Explorer Series provided a unique occasion to give prominence to the career opportunities and markets of Singapore! Thank you to all our speakers and participants for joining!
More editions of this initiative will take place. Stay tuned!
