The CEMS Club Rotterdam – the study association of RSM’s IM/CEMS – organised visits to the European head offices of Google, Facebook, and cloud technology company Salesforce, alongside other giants of the technology industry in the area known as ‘Silicon Docks’. The students learned more about technology trends such as the Internet of Things (IoT) and Artificial Intelligence (AI), attended an advertising skills seminar, and explored career opportunities.
Matthias Man, head organiser of the trip, head of Corporate for this semester’s CEMS Club Rotterdam and CEMS student at RSM, explained the goal was to strengthen the relationship between RSM and the three tech companies, which are all CEMS Corporate Partners, and to open up networking and career opportunities to students. It served to reinforce the relationship between RSM and other CEMS academic members, which includes UCD Michael Smurfit Graduate Business School. The trip also proved to be a great team-building experience for IM/CEMS students at RSM, he commented.
The whole trip was declared a success by the participating students. Ina Tsenova said: “Great trip! Amazing people! The best CEMS experience so far at RSM!”, and Sarah Nolte said: “As a soon-to-be graduate, this trip came at exactly the right time to explore different kinds of career possibilities.”
“This is what makes CEMS at RSM so great, the work hard/play hard mentality. We work hard, and get rewarded with such unique and amazing events,” commented co-organiser Felix Plakolb, who made a video impression of the study trip.
The RSM CEMS students were invited to the start-up event hosted by fellow CEMS students in the CEMS Club Dublin, on the UCD campus. In mixed teams, the CEMS students from both business schools solved intricate case studies. “The CEMS students from RSM and UCD presented excellent and innovative solutions; the start-ups told us they were very happy with the quality and originality of the solutions,” said Axel Mathysen Gerst, president of the CEMS Club Dublin. The start-up companies they interacted with were PlayTank, Parkpnp and Surplus Stock Worldwide.
