Student Board Virtual Meeting Winter 2021

After originally planning a second hybrid meeting hosted by LSE, due to changes in travel restrictions, this year’s last meeting of the CEMS Student Board was held fully virtual again from December 4th to 12th, 2021.

The series of calls included team workshops to ideate new projects, an engaging session with McKinsey & Company, calls with the CEMS Global Office, a plenary session to discuss current topics and an update by LSE’s Academic Director, Christine Côté.

Current projects included:

  • The compensation of the Student Board’s travel related Co2 emissions through a 1,000€ donation to Kenya Blue Forests Project
  • The CEMS Buddy program helping clubs to learn from each other and engage in shared events
  • The organization of the Global Alumni Week 2022 and the Impact Investment Cup
  • The hosting of the first ever CEMS School Fair on January 10th and 12th where students can learn more about potential host schools
  • Improvements to the Social Internship Program and the CEMS Internship Guide
  • Securing physical student tickets for next year’s VivaTech Conference

Throughout the week, 32 Student Board Representatives (SBR), three Executive Team members, multiple representatives of the CEMS Global Office and our corporate partner McKinsey & Company participated in engaging online sessions, full-board meetings, and single team meetings. In a very interactive session with two former Student Board members now working at McKinsey & Company, the SBRs learned and discussed adapting ways of working to the new normal and how also the Student Board can further leverage the hybrid setting.

For the third time, three members of the Student Board were recognized by their peers for their outstanding contributions by each winning an Octane Awards for their dedication to the Student Board and embodying the Student Board values. Congratulations to Marc Mombauer (ESADE), Natan Saraf (Koç) and Maximiliano Karl (NHH)!

Some tears of gratitude were shed when the 10 SBRs soon ending their term serving in the Student Board as well as the 2021 Executive Team said their final goodbyes. For 2022, the new Executive Team will consist of Stephanie Nützel (KUBS), Marta Magalhães (NOVA) and Polina Lisovskaya (GSOM) and they have already outlined their strategy for breaking silos within the Student Board, implementing initiatives for further global integration and continuing to increase sustainability-related initiatives.

About the Student Board

The CEMS Student Board consists of elected representatives from each CEMS school. It serves a dual role by advocating for the students’ opinions, and managing projects on a global scale, while supporting the local CEMS Clubs.

The Student Board is organized in six functional areas: Marketing & Communications, CEMS Club Support, Master in International Management Affairs, Corporate & Social Partners, Responsible Leadership and Alumni Relations. Also, each member is allocated to one of the five Project Teams: Advocacy Taskforce, Global Integration, Digital Innovation, International Engagement Committee, and Diversity & Inclusion. The Board is chaired by the Executive Team, who sets up the Board’s strategy and structure, and supervises the respective teams. Until the end of 2021 the Student Board is led by its President, Finia Jestaedt (UB), Vice President Operations, Jessica Rutley (WU) and Vice President Finance, David Flückiger (HSG).
