What Makes Us Special?
Aalto University is a multidisciplinary community of bold thinkers, where science and art meet technology and business. We are committed to identifying and solving grand societal challenges and building an innovative future.
Aalto University School of Business has the Triple Crown accreditation and is one of the leading business schools in Europe. We educate experts and leaders for the future and contribute to society through impactful research, long-term partnerships and societal engagement. Furthermore, as world-class education is only part of the experience, we take pride in offering an active student life, an international landscape and a dynamic community.
Aalto University has a vibrant entrepreneurial ecosystem and a thriving innovation culture, with plenty of opportunities for students to get involved. About 100 companies are founded each year in the Aalto ecosystem. The start-up scene is powered by both student-led initiatives and the university’s cutting-edge research. Aalto’s incubators and accelerators empower community members to transform their ideas into impactful ventures.
What to Expect on Campus
Aalto University School of Business is situated in a lively international campus of ca. 14,000 students.
Beyond top-tier academics our campus offers a student friendly and inspiring study experience. On campus you can find places to study, get to know other students from various schools and disciplines, do sports, enjoy a delicious coffee or budget-friendly meals, join numerous student-led activities and even visit a movie theater.
Aalto University aims to have a carbon neutral campus by 2030. The campus is already powered by more than 2,000 solar panels and 100 ground source heat wells. The architecture features both new design and established older buildings designed by some of Finland’s most famous architects, such as Alvar Aalto.
Aalto blends Nordic practicality with international atmosphere, making it easy to find your community and embark on new adventures.
Living in the City
The lively Aalto University campus is located in Otaniemi, Espoo, just a short metro ride away from the city center of Helsinki and surrounded by nature and sea. Helsinki is a vibrant seaside city of beautiful islands and green urban areas. Helsinki marches to a wonderful beat of its own with dynamic food, design, architecture - and sauna! - scenes.
You can explore Helsinki's iconic sights, from Suomenlinna to Helsinki Cathedral, and visit numerous cultural activities and public saunas, all easy to reach with affordable city transport (less than 50 euros/month for students). In Helsinki clean nature is always close by, for example in Helsinki Central Park or on the various islands.
Affordable student housing on campus and elsewhere in Helsinki and Espoo ensures an accessible way of living (€350–600/month). Students also receive discounts not only for public transportation but also for cultural activities such as museums and concerts.
Finland is a safe, efficient and peaceful country that allows people to be themselves. Some think Finns are a little odd, in a good way, with our fascination for saunas, coffee, heavy metal music or dipping into icy water in the winter. On the other hand, Finland is renowned for its sensibleness and practicality. We top international comparisons in education, equality, safety and quality of life. People can be trusted and everyone is taken care of. We have plenty of ‘sisu’, or guts: we never give up - a feature that comes in handy during the dark and potentially cold winter months.
In Finland it is easy to get by with English, although we recommend learning a few words of Finnish - another unique aspect of Finland: a language related to almost no other European languages.
CEMS Club Helsinki
Finnish student culture emphasizes a balance between studies and free time, characterized by a low-hierarchy, informal atmosphere, and strong student traditions such as wearing overalls and celebrating Vappu. On the Otaniemi campus, our close-knit international CEMS community thrives with unique events like cozy cottage trips, themed parties and excursions to nearby countries and to Lapland with a possibility to see the Northern Lights and at least some reindeer.
CEMS Club Helsinki enriches the CEMS experience for students, corporate partners, alumni and faculty by organizing various activities throughout the year: from seminars and workshops to more casual, fun-filled events such as sports activities, humanitarian initiatives and trips in Finland and abroad.
